Is narcolepsy a mental disability?

Narcolepsy is a chronic neurological illness that disrupts the brain's capacity to regulate sleep-wake cycles; it is not categorized as a mental handicap. Excessive daytime drowsiness and unexpected sleep episodes are common among narcoleptics, and they can disrupt everyday living. Due to disturbed habits and societal constraints, it might affect mental health even if it is not a mental disorder. Medications that encourage wakefulness, such as Modalert 200 mg, are frequently used to assist control symptoms. Depending on the degree of symptoms and functional effect, narcolepsy may be considered a handicap under some legal or vocational frameworks, despite being a neurological disorder.
